TNLC members strongly believe in giving back to the community and society at large in whatever small way they can, since most of our memebrs came to this country with very little possessions and wealth.  So having acquired professional aspirations and comforts, the members are always eager to serve the community in whatever capacity it is possible.

TNLC members have participated and involved in raising funds for some humanitarian and natural disasters in Haiti, Philippines, Nepal and wildfires in BC and Alberta.

Fundraising Gala

In line with Lions Clubs International’s SightFirst initiative, Toronto Netralya Lions Club has successfully raised half a million dollars for local and global eye clinics, staying true to our mission of combating preventable blindness. Our recent “Lions Gala for Sight” events in 2010 and 2012 were instrumental in achieving this goal.

In reflection, the “Lions Gala for Sight” on May 5, 2018, marked a significant milestone in our commitment to raising awareness about eye health and diabetes management in Toronto’s Indigenous community. We are grateful for the support received, making the event a success. As we continue our journey toward a future free from preventable blindness, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all who contributed and participated in making this meaningful initiative a reality.

Eye Glasses Donation

Eye Glasses donation

TNLC is deeply committed to making a positive impact on vision care by actively engaging in the collection of used eyeglasses. This ongoing effort takes place at various locations and during our social and official events. To date, TNLC has successfully collected a substantial number of used eyeglasses.
Collected glasses are carefully sorted for recyclability and delivered to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers (LERCs). LERC volunteers clean, sort, and distribute the glasses, ensuring they reach individuals in need in low and middle-income communities, both locally and globally. This initiative reflects TNLC’s commitment to making a meaningful impact on vision care and contributing to the well-being of communities around the world.

Winter Clothing Donation

Every winter, TNLC members passionately organize a winter woolen clothes drive, embodying our commitment to community welfare. Collaborating with fellow Lions Clubs, we extend our efforts to Indigenous communities in Northern Ontario. A substantial collection of winter clothing and household items was gathered, and a TNLC member personally delivered a loaded truck to those residing in remote areas.

This winter, our drive took on added significance as we directed our support towards Toronto’s Indigenous community. The generosity of donors was evident in the contribution of new and gently used, high-quality coats, sweaters, scarves, mitts, jackets, and boxes of new woolen socks. TNLC, alongside dedicated Leo members, diligently sorted, packed, and delivered these essential items. This successful initiative reflects TNLC’s unwavering dedication to serving communities and ensuring warmth and comfort during the winter months.

Food Bank

In the challenging balance between paying rent and buying groceries, numerous households in Toronto grapple with the dilemma of meeting both essential needs.  Recognizing the pressing need, during every social event, TNLC encourages both members and guests to contribute non-perishable food items. This collective effort results in a substantial collection of essential items that are then donated to local food banks. By fostering a culture of giving, TNLC aims to make a meaningful impact on alleviating food insecurity within our community, extending a helping hand to those facing difficult choices in their daily lives.

Health and Wellness

Beyond our routine meetings, TNLC is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of our members through a diverse array of Health and Wellness seminars. These engaging sessions include invigorating Yoga classes, lively Dancercise sessions, intellectually stimulating Bridge classes, informative Ayurvedic seminars, and active participation in events like Camp Dorset. Moreover, our commitment extends to hosting seminars addressing crucial topics such as Diabetes and Eye-related health. By offering this spectrum of Health and Wellness initiatives, we strive to create a supportive and holistic environment for our community.

Social Activities

TNLC values the spirit of community and actively engages members and guests through a range of social activities. These include not only meaningful fundraising initiatives but also acts of kindness, such as collecting items for local food banks and used eyeglasses for those in need. Additionally, our vibrant community enjoys the rhythm of music concerts, the camaraderie of our annual BBQ, and the celebration of diverse cultural festivals such as Holi, Diwali, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. These activities not only foster a sense of togetherness but also contribute to making a positive impact in the broader community.
